Working with Papillon Press is meant to be fun and we don't mind answering questions! Here are the most frequently asked questions we receive, however if your question is not listed here please contact us and we'll be more than happy to answer.
Can I choose the wording of my invitation?
Yes! The wording and language of your invitation is completely up to you. If you need any help with finding the proper wording for your wedding invitation, please refer to our Etiquette section.
Nous offrons aussi des suggestions pour le langage d'une invitation en français dans notre section d'Étiquette.
Can I change the colours of my design?
Yes! Papillon Press designs can be printed in any colour. Let us know what you have in mind and we will send you approximate digital swatches of colour for your approval. Please keep in mind that there might be slight discrepancies between the digital swatch we send you and the final printed colours, but we do our best to match them as closely as possible.
Can I have my design printed in metallic ink?
At this time we can only offer two metallic inks: silver and gold. Designs printed in either of these metallics will incur an extra cost of $0.20 per card.
Can I choose the paper my design is printed on?
Papillon Press designs are printed on bright white 100% cotton Crane Lettra paper. We've done our research and have found that Crane Lettra is the ideal paper for letterpress printing. We also use Crane Lettra envelopes.
Printing on other types of paper is possible; however there is an additional cost. Please consult us about what you had in mind.
Can I customize the font on my design?
We try to choose the best possible font to match your invitation style (or other product) at the design stage. If you are unhappy with our font choices, let us know and we will try to accommodate.
If you have a specific font in mind, please let us know as early as possible and we will do our best to accommodate your choice.
When should I order my wedding invitations?
We recommend ordering your wedding invitations 4-6 months before the wedding. Our turnaround at Papillon Press is 3-4 weeks, plus shipping time. It is better to reserve your press time well in advance.
When should I mail out my wedding invitations?
Wedding invitations are typically mailed out 6 to 8 weeks before the date of the wedding. Wedding etiquette does not recommend sending invitations earlier than 3 months before the wedding, unless you are having the wedding abroad.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes. The minimum order for wedding invitations is a quantity of 50. The costs incurred for creating unique letterpress designs are higher than any other types of invitation; therefore we cannot print less than 50.
My budget is a bit tight, but I'd really love a Papillon Press design! How can I minimize costs?
There are several ways to reduce the cost of ordering from us. The main suggestion we have is to order in one colour. This way, we only have to run your design through the press once.
If you are ordering wedding invitations, consider making the announcement two colours, but have the RSVP, or map, etc. printed in one colour. Another way to save with wedding invitations is to buy your own envelopes.
Will you print my own design?
Yes. We do not really recommend this option unless you are a trained graphic artist, but we do offer letterpress printing services. Please refer to our Customization section for more information.
Can I see a printed proof of my wedding invitation before I order anything?
No. It unfortunately costs too much to print one single invitation on the letterpress. When you order a custom wedding invitation, we will send you a digital proof of your invitation before going to press. But once we go to press no changes can be made to the invitation. The same applies to any other Papillon Press product.
If you are still unsure about ordering a letterpress design, we recommend ordering a sample. See our Order a Sample page.
Can I put in a rush order?
The best we can do is a turnaround of 7 business days. There is a 50% upcharge for rush orders.
How many invitations should I order?
You should factor in 15 extra cards in your order. We offer 10% more envelopes, included in the price of your order.
What is a save-the-date?
A save-the-date is a card sent out prior to the official wedding invitation that is meant to reserve your guests' time in advance. Save-the-dates are typically sent out 6-12 months before the wedding. They are especially useful for destination weddings or if your guests need to make travel arrangements or take vacation time.
Some people also use save-the-dates to establish the tone of their wedding or alternatively, to send out a more fun card than the wedding invitation to announce the date of their wedding.
Papillon Press designs save-the-dates that are individual pieces and do not have to be part of an invitation package.
Do you offer international shipping?
Yes! Please refer to our Shipping section for more information.
Will you proofread my invitation?
We are excellent spellers, but we're not perfect. It will ultimately be your responsibility to proofread before your design goes to press.
